The San Jose Jr. Sharks and their crosstown rival, the Santa Clara Blackhawks, teamed up recently to raise money for the Red Cross Earthquake Relief. All of the proceeds benefited the people in Haiti and Chili.
The event featured the Jr. Sharks coaches taking on the Blackhawks coaches. The night featured Randy Hahn, the San Jose Sharks commentator, being the MC of the event and SJ Sharkie refereeing the game. Jamie Baker, the Sharks radio color commentator, played for the Blackhawks (he is an assistant coach for their Bantam A team).
There were over 400 people in attendance to support the cause and the event was able to raise over $12,000 through donations at the door, an auction and corporate donations.
The Sharks coaches won the game and took home the Tomahawk, which will now be the prize for the event. The organizations are hoping to make this an annual event.
The Jr. Sharks would like to thank the coaches who participated, the Blackhawks and all of the volunteers that made the event possible.
